South Fyn
South Fyn (Sydfyn)
South Fyn is one of the most beautiful areas of the whole of Denmark, and has been for centuries.
There is gently rolling countryside with its full palette of colours and a slower pace of life than in the lively Odense.
The cities on South Fyn are Faaborg, a quaint market town with plenty of well-preserved architecture from past ages, and the larger (27,000 inhabitants) Svendborg. Svendborg was Denmark's "Town Of The Year" in 2000 and celebrated its 750th anniversary as a market town in 2003.
Then there is the Fyn School of Painters. In Faaborg, Mads Rasmussen bestowed the money to build one of the most attractive art museums of Denmark, which houses the biggest collection of works by the Fyn Painters.
Today, South Fyn still attracts artists, and is home to innumerable craftsmen.
The area of South Fyn is also perfect for a cycling holiday. Active holidays for the whole family: you can fly a kite, go fishing, row a kayak, play golf …the possibilities are endless. Once you have been to South Fyn, you are sure to come again.
