Hans Christian Andersen

Hans Christian Andersen, born in Odense on Fyn, is most famous for his fairy tales. Among his best-known stories are The Steadfast Tin Soldier, The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Little Match Girl, The Ugly Duckling and The Red Shoes. His fairy tales have been translated into over 150 languages and continue to be published in millions of copies all over the world and inspired many other works.

The Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense opened in 1908 as a museum focusing on the life and work of the writer, making it one of the first writer museums in the world.

Carl Nielsen

Carl August Nielsen (9 June 1865 – 3 October 1931) was a conductor, violinist, and composer from Fyn. His works have long been admired in Denmark and throughout Europe.

Carl Nielsen is especially admired for his six symphonies and his concertos for violin, flute and clarinet.

The Carl Nielsen Museum in Odense gives a chronologically constructed picture of his life and work.
